Another intervention for the stepping away from the ball syndrome!
This young lad had a picture of himself stepping away from the ball located in front and slightly left in his line of vision.
We then found he had a strong picture of himself stepping towards the ball located off to the right of his line of vision.
We next re-framed the pictures.
The negative (step away image) we made framed and in black and white and we played with the sub-modalities a little more in terms of shrinking the image to postage stamp size.
The positive (step towards image) was already panoramic and in colour, so we made it bigger, brighter, bolder.
Having got used to playing with his images, my plan next was to map across the positive image into the location of the negative image - ie get him to see the positive in front and slightly left. However - I decided to incorporate the Swish Pattern into the routine as well.
Swish Pattern involves getting the client to place a small positive image inside a negative image - and then fast-shrink the negative at the same time as fast-blowing-up the positive. The end result is that the positive fills the field of vision whilst the negative is totally shrunk and masked without trace. All this is done while "Swishing" or saying the word "Whoooosh"! The speed of execution of this Swishing routine is the key element - anything less than fast Whooosh will not work!
In this instance we did the routine - starting with the original sized images in their respective original locations. I then got him to bring the positive to the position of the negative - making it bigger, brighter, bolder as it moved over. At the same time the negative was shrunk and shrunk and then disappeared as the big and expanding positive arrived front and to the left. This was done at speed and I provided the Whoooosh sounds for him! After he did the routine I got him to repeat it four times.
End result - he no longer backed away. Time taken - about 2 minutes.
Very quick, very effective - give it a try!
