This is a great exercise when watching kickers in televised matches. The cameramen should give you a reasonable quality of close-ups so you can read the players.
Look at their technique in terms of anchors - what they are - when they use them - how many they use - etc etc. See how many you can spot and how routinely they use them.
Jonny Wilkinson without doubt is the most well known and oft-seen, plus because of all the interviews he's done and all the in-depth programmes made about him, all the books etc etc, we know and recognise many of them. But there's plenty of anchors there to see from all the other kickers as well.
Think about your own technique....the routine, the rituals. Do YOU use anchors? If not then think about improving your average using anchors to elicit the state you always want to be in. You can't control the pitch condition, the weather, the crowd - but you can control yourself and how you react to them. Anchors will help you.
Every player is different which is what makes this a fascinating study!
